Course Description
This beginning studio art course is constructed to develop competence in a variety of media using techniques traditional to the visual arts. Students will increase higher-level thinking skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to apply these skills to personal expression through the study of art history, the practice of art production, and the development of perceptual skills through art criticism and aesthetics.
Course Objectives
· Produce two and three dimensional works of art using a variety of media and techniques
· Produce works of art that effectively use the elements of art and principles of design.
· Communicate personal perceptions of the world using appropriate art vocabulary.
· Exhibit proper care and conservation of art materials and supplies.
· Recognize, describe, analyze, and evaluate the visual characteristics of art

Gallery Wall
The first unit of study was focused on drawing round objects, using circles and ellipses, and incorporating value to create the illusion of depth. The following artworks highlight the Art 1 students work from various sections..
During the second unit of study, students drew contour line drawings, and then used them to create interesting mixed media still life collage compositions.
The third unit of study focused on color theory. The students learned how to mix secondary and tertiary colors using only red, blue and yellow paint. They also mixed tints and shades using black and white. These pieces were absolutely breath taking...
Following there creative color wheel assignment, students further explored the realms of color theory by creating reflective kaleidoscope paintings.
Students spent the past few weeks doing contour line drawings of a still-life,and then added layers of pastel to bring life to their still-lives. These pieces are beautiful.
