Course Description
This is an introductory yearlong intensive study of the elements and principles of design and their use through classroom projects. Students explore a variety of media, both 2D and 3D, while mastering the use of technical art materials. Students learn to respond to their work as well as that of others.
Course Objectives
· Produce two and three dimensional works of art using a variety of media and techniques
· Produce works of art that effectively use the elements of art and principles of design.
· Communicate personal perceptions of the world using appropriate art vocabulary.
· Exhibit proper care and conservation of art materials and supplies.
· Recognize, describe, analyze, and evaluate the visual characteristics of art.

Classroom expectations
Students are expected to conform to the school dress codes and the student code of conduct at all times. The following additional expectations apply:
1. Bring your sketchbook and a pencil to class everyday
2. Be seated and ready to begin when the bell rings
3. Be on task at all times

5. Clean up after yourself

Gallery Wall
Students began this unit by studying line and Op Art compositions. Following their line designs, they created oil pastel non-objective compositions. Then they experimented with drawing positive and negative space and creating reflective cut paper designs.
Basic Design Students created some really wonderful frottage compositions while studying the work of Max Ernst.
Basic Design students tried their hand at creating dynamic Op Art paintings in the style of Bridget Riley.
Basic Design students created colorful Graffiti inspired compositions this past week.
